Lavandels Kyssa was entered in her first AKC show (Ann Arbor Kennel Club) in July 2010. Kyssa went up against 5 other Icelandic sheepdogs her first day in the ring (straight off the farm!). That first day she took a 3 pt. Major and on the next day she earned 2 more pts. Her handler Joan Dow was very proud of Kyssa and said that she might have taken Best of Breed except that she sat down for the judge instead of standing! So we've been working with the "stand" command, and we're hoping her next time out that she will stand pretty the whole time. We are very proud of Kyssa and as you can see in the photo at left, she's enjoying herself immensely.
Update: As of August 22, 2010, Kyssa has a total of 9 pts (including one major) towards her 15 points needed for a Championship. She was shown over the weekend in Muncie, Indiana and earned 4pts. (p.s. she STOOD for the judge this weekend instead of sitting -- good girl, Kyssa! : ) Kyssa traveled with Karen & Joan in September 2010 to New York. Photo below is of Kyssa's movement at that show (photo courtesy of Nan Holmes Schefcick) In New York, Kyssa earned an additional 4 pts, so she now has 13 pts and needs one more major to earn her AKC championship.

Introducing AKC-CH Lavandels Kyssa! Kyssa finished her championship on November 20, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio by earning her 2nd major. She had already accumulated more than 15 pts. by now, but needed that 2nd major to finish. On Sunday, November 21, 2010, Kyssa competed as a CH and earned 4 of the 25 pts. she will need to become a Grand Champion. We are so proud of Kyssa and want to thank her handler and our friend, Joan Dow, for doing such a great job showing Kyssa. Kyssa was invited to attend the AKC Eukanuba event in Long Beach, CA, December 5th, 2010. Kyssa's was in the ring with 2 grand champions and 9 other champions. She did not place. Joan tells me that her major fault was that she did not keep her ears up. I am sure the stress of an airplace trip to a strange city, and out of her own home/farm environment was very stressful on Kyssa and it showed in the ring. But we still love our wonderful Kyssa for the spirited and sweet soul that she is and we are proud of her for being a good sport through all of the new experiences she went through this year. The photos at right are of Kyssa with Joan and her Kuvasz, Secret; below right is Kyssa with Karen in Long Beach, taking a walk in the sun.
