Understanding the role of
Cobalt and Vitamin B12 in Sheep Health
by Laurie Ball-Gisch

Cobalt is absolutely essential to a sheep for the
manufacture of Vitamin B12.
This is made by the micro-organisms living in the gut.
The sheep has no other source of the vitamin,
and without it the animal will die of malnutrition.
Lesser degrees of shortage of cobalt,
and therefore B12, will result in varying
degrees of lack of nutrition.
This in turn will cause loss of growth,
productivity, fleece quality, etc. ...
B12 is vital to the proper functioning of the
rumen micro-organisms."
