May 10 Early 6 a.m. on the morning of our annual Spring Farm Day event and three of our ewes had new lambs to present to me. Serena has an awesome 10 1/2 lb. ram lamb out of Kunningison this year. We had tried to do VAI with Serena twice, and then put her with the cleanup ram. What a great ram -- Moli + Kunningi genetics. We are keeping this lamb.

May 10 And my dear treasure, Gwendolyn once again presented me with twins out of Rubus. The white ram weighed 8 1/2 lbs. and the black/grey ewe weighed 7 1/2 lbs. Gwen has never let me down, starting out her prolific career by twinning unassisted as a yearling and has either had twins or triplets every year since. The ewe is sold, the ram is available.
May 10 Lena Horn had twins this year again! The lambs are out of Kunningison (cleanup). Lena retains her perfect 200% lambing unassisted record for us. The ewe lamb weighed 7 3/4 lbs. and the ram lamb weighed 9 1/4 lbs. Both of these lambs are available.

May 12 Olive didn't take with our attempts at VAI, so she lambs late with the Kunningison as clean-up ram. She delivered this gorgeous, huge 10 1/2 lb. ram lamb int he pasture this morning. He's quite handsome and had huge horn buds. This is a nice combination of Lodi and Kunningi and it shows in this newborn's body length and width. This lamb is so awesome that I have decided to keep him.

May 12 Eleanor had her first lambs today. She presented us with a beautiful solid black ewe lamb (7 lbs.) and a solid moorit ram lamb (4 1/2 lbs.) out of the Skumurson. The ram lamb has that characteristic white frosting from his great grandsire, Rektor. We are keeping the ewe lamb and the ram is reserved.

May 21 "Jamie" a 9 year old Horvi daughter, delivered her 9 1/2 lb. ewe lamb this afternoon during a rainstorm out in the field. Interestingly, after the lamb was up and nursing, Jamie came to the side of the barn and was pawing at the gate to come in out of the driving rain. Smart ewe! The sire of the lamb is a SRX 59N, grey moorit horned AI son of Kani. This ewe lamb was hard to catch already, so I was glad to have her tucked into a stall before I had to pick up the children from school. I am keeping this lamb because I just love these old gals who keep on going strong and unassisted - these are the bloodlines to value.

May 22 Some things are worth the wait! Superb delivered twins this morning, both of them black & white spotted out of SRX 59N (so they carry moorit too!). The ram lamb weighed 7 1/2 lbs. and the ewe lamb was 5 1/2 lbs. She's a great first time mom and the lambs are vigorous and beautiful (of course!). I am keeping the ewe and the ram is sold.

May 27 Finally the end of the 2008 lambing season. First time mom, Sesame had an 8 lb. black ewe lamb and a 4 lb. "afterthought" white ram lamb. Their sire is SRX59N, a moorit grey Kanison. These lambs have the great Iceland ram "Thettir" as their grandsire and I hope they live up to his great reputation. I am keeping the ewe lamb and the ram is sold.
